Udong Review (우동, 2006)

The standard of Udon flavor in Japan and Korea is different. South Korea mainly cares about the taste of soup, while Japan cares more about the chewy noodles. I had Udon in Osaka, Japan, and I still remember that thick and chewy noodles like a rice cake.

Kosuke, who lived with his dream of becoming a comedian in New York, doesn't work well and ends up returning home with only a lot of debt. His hometown is a famous area for Udon. That's where he started a new job.

The movie is longer than common films. The director seemed to want to show a lot, I guess. Various kinds of Udon appear in the background of a beautiful rural village. People who related to Kosuke, share their dreams and interests. Everyone is pure and warm. That is the only unrealistic one in this film.

Do you have a similar experience like him?
Left to the big city with a big dream and failed.

The only thing you could do in that situation maybe is going hometown back like him. You're lucky if you have a home to embrace you when things aren't going well. I thought the director wanted to let us know it is enough in our life if we have neighbors and family who welcome us and food that reminds you of memories.
So, what is the food of your life?
