The Shape of Water (셰이프 오브 워터, 2017) 본문
The title itself was interesting. The shape of water... Doesn't the shape of the water depend on the container?
At the first time, I saw the poster of this movie, I didn't notice it wasn't a person holding a woman. Even after reading a story, it was weird and unbelievable. Have you ever imagined the love between a monster and a woman?
In the 1960s, when the space race was in full swing, Elisa(Sally Hawkins), a language-impaired cleaner worked in a secret laboratory at the Center for Aerospace Research. She gets along with a chatty but trustworthy colleague, Zelda(Octavia Spencer), and Giles(Richard Jenkins), a poor neighbor who takes care of each other. One day, a scaly creature came into the lab, trapped in a tank. Elisa is attracted by the mysterious creature and approaches little by little. Dr. Robert Hoffstetler(Michael Stuhlbarg) witnessed that the creature reacts to music and it has intelligence and empathy. And the laboratory's security director, Richard Strickland(Michael Shannon), wants to dissect him and use him for space development. But Elisa makes a plan to rescue it.
Elisa is a very self-reliant woman. She doesn't hide her desires and is brave enough to keep her love. She is also a courageous woman who accepts love even if it is not a human. After seeing her another movie, 'Maudi, my love', I thought she is a more attractive actor in a romantic genre. Even a monster couldn't help falling in love with her, I guess.
After watching the movie, it feels like the director asks me.
Disability, race, gender, sexual preference, etc. More than anything else, can you see others as they are?
