[Korean Movie] Little Forest Review(리틀 포레스트, 2018)

Since I don't go out often these days because of the coronavirus, I wanted to see a movie where nature comes out and see delicious food. So I watched the Korean version of "Little Forest" which I saw when it was released. The story is about a young woman who returns to her hometown tired of city life and spends her winter, spring, summer, fall, and winter again.

The original is a Japanese movie and two movies were made in total. It was fun to compare Japanese and Korean versions. The Japanese version really focused more on the process of producing and making food, while the Korean one focused more on relationships with people and 'I.' The beginning of the movie is also a spring flower, with cherry blossoms of Japan and Forsythia flowers of Korea. Forsythias are yellow Korean flowers that you can meet in the spring.

Kim Tae-Ri, who was once recognized as a rising star in the movie 'The Handmaiden(아가씨)', is the main character. As a wandering young woman, the natural acting was easy to concentrate on the film.

The most memorable food in the movie is the cabbage pancake that first appeared. The only thing she could get from an empty house and the frozen field was the frozen cabbage. At that time, the fresh part of the cabbage was edible and she baked it. When I saw her cooking a warm, savory cabbage pancake in a desolate place where no one welcomed her, I felt as if I felt warming up at that scene.

Sometimes when I am tired of life, I often look up this movie. The act of eating makes me think about a sacred ceremony and I could be thankful for my life again.
